Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.

  • Plot: The documentary follows the real-life story of a teenage couple, Lauryn Licari and Owen McKenny, who were cyberbullied and harassed relentlessly for nearly two years by an anonymous person sending them aggressive and threatening text messages. The messages caused immense strain on their relationship and personal lives.

  • The Big Twist: The investigation, which eventually involved the FBI, led to a shocking revelation. The person behind the harassment was not a jealous classmate, as many had suspected, but was instead Lauryn's own mother, Kendra Licari. She had been sending the messages to her own daughter and her daughter's boyfriend to try and ruin their relationship.

  • Director: The film was directed by Skye Borgman, who is also known for directing other popular Netflix true crime documentaries like Abducted in Plain Sight and Girl in the Picture.

The documentary uses police bodycam footage, interviews with the people involved, and re-enactments to tell the disturbing story of this unusual and cruel case of catfishing.
